ABOUT

I first became interested in hypnobirthing when I was pregnant with our second child- Isla.  My first experience was probably average and I certainly didn't want to just have a repeat of average. I wanted to believe there was a way to change my outlook but I couldn't see how and I was certainly feeling apprehensive of the impending birth.  Hypnobirthing was suggested to me- and to be honest I was not keen.  I couldn't see how it would make much difference- how could staying calm affect birth on the day.  A course wasn't available for me at the time so I did what I could to educate myself and practice lots.  Around came Islas arrival- it was worlds apart from my first birth- an easier, calmer and more relaxed experience despite requiring an IV and not recommended for a water birth which would have been my preferred choice.  My interest continued and I encouraged some others to investigate it for themseleves.  This in turn led me to the Wise Hippo progamme where I was particularly struck with one of their core values ' the right birth on the day'.

This coupled with a desire to encourage new parents in the step in to parenthood- especially those living in rural Scotland- where accessibility to courses is more difficult-  helped me take the plunge and train to be an teacher whilst I was pregnant with number 3. You will be able to read the whole birth story soon on my blog!

In my spare time I love getting outside rain or shine, exploring the latest muddy puddle or shell picking on the beach.
